October gave us a yellow cab, a splash of tropical blue, some pilot-watch perfection and even a little James Bond villainy. We covered a lot of watches at Man And Gear this month, but these five kept coming back to mind. None looks or feels quite like the others, and that’s what makes this bunch so much fun.
1. Brew’s Metric Chrono Taxi

There’s a little New York City cab culture on your wrist, minus the traffic and questionable air freshener. Brew’s $495 Metric Chrono Taxi takes inspiration from the city’s iconic yellow taxis, with bright yellow accents and a checkerboard detail that give the dial plenty of character. The 36mm case keeps things compact and wearable, while the limited production run of just 1,000 pieces makes it even more interesting. It’s a fun, distinctive chronograph that doesn’t take itself too seriously, and that’s exactly the appeal.

2. Certina DS Action Diver 38mm

Certina went with black and electric green, and we’re into it. This 38mm diver isn’t just dressed up for a padel tie-in: it has 300 meters of water resistance, an automatic movement with an 80-hour power reserve and a ceramic bezel. At CHF 865 on Certina’s Swiss site, it’s got plenty going on beneath those loud little flashes of green.

3. Longines Spirit Pilot Flyback

Not every pilot’s chronograph needs to look like an instrument panel strapped to your arm. Longines brought its flyback chronograph down to a wearable 39.5mm case and gave it a gorgeous blue dial and ceramic bezel. It’s $5,550, hand-wound and COSC-certified. Expensive? Absolutely. But this is the sort of watch that makes you check your wrist even when you already know the time.

4. Seiko Prospex HBC011 Fan-Selected Diver

Seiko actually let fans vote on a new Prospex design, and they picked a beauty. The turquoise ‘Daytime Blue’ dial looks like a Caribbean getaway in watch form. Underneath, it’s a real 300-meter diver with a 40mm case and an automatic movement with a 72-hour power reserve. The $1,400 HBC011 is limited to 4,500 pieces, so this one comes with a story worth telling.

5. Omega Seamaster Diver 300M Spectre

James Bond usually gets the cool gear. This time, Omega made something for the bad guys. The new Spectre Seamaster has a black dial, a steel mesh bracelet and—our favorite detail—a rotor bearing Spectre’s octopus emblem, visible through the sapphire caseback. It’s a 42mm Master Chronometer with a mischievous streak. You don’t need to root for the villains to appreciate this one.

Which one gets our vote? Depends on the day. The Brew is pure fun, the Seiko begs for a beach, and the Omega has the best party trick. That’s a pretty great problem for a watch fan to have.
